Hi I’m Mark, and welcome to Eat Fat Beat Fat (EFBF)! I’m a thirty-something engineer by day, amateur keto chef by night! Married to a Naturopathic Doctor and father of two beautiful girls (look for Dr. G’s occasional blog posts). I’ve struggled with weight most of my adult life, steadily packing on pounds year after year for the last 15 years or so. My wife introduced me to the ketogenic diet, and after trying it for the first time and feeling the results first hand, I knew keto was my ticket to wellness and a healthy weight! Who would have thought I needed to eat fat to beat the fat, counterintuitive but extremely effective – and the inspiration for this site.
Mark @eatfatbeatfat lost 70 lbs in 7 months on keto. All with little to no exercise!
Now don’t be fooled, it wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns from that point. I didn’t succeed with the keto diet the first time, nor the second time. Sugar, carbs, and emotional eating is an addiction, and I was a perfect example. I would follow the keto regimen strictly for 4-5 weeks, drop 20lbs, plateau, cheat and inevitably fall off the wagon. Each time I would regain the 20 some odd pounds in short order, but with each passing attempt I would also gain intangibles – valuable experience and lessons learned. I learned more about nutrition, about foods that were ok and foods that were not, I learned what worked for me and what my weaknesses were. This made each subsequent attempt easier and more enjoyable. Remember, the keto lifestyle is straightforward on paper, but not necessarily in practice. The key is consistency. Life happens, along with it’s stressors, and slip-ups happens. Cheat days happen. Midnight McDonald’s drive-thru runs happen! The most valuable piece of advice I can offer is to be consistent – don’t let a bad day, meal or carb binge get in the way. Don’t fall off the proverbial wagon, dust yourself off and get back on the regimen – one bad meal or day is not the end of your keto world. Slow and steady wins the race, be consistent and you will reach your goals!
